How to install and disassemble the RO membrane

Reverse osmosis membrane is the core component of RO system. Normally quartz sand filter, activated carbon filter and security filter will be used as pre-treatment to protect the RO membrane. The service life of the reverse osmosis membrane is about 2--5 years. When the output water capacity becomes smaller and using CIP can not make it better,it is time to replace RO membrane.

1. Precautions need to be noticed before the installation of RO membrane

1) Take the membrane from the package, take care not to scratch the membrane or hands when using scissors or knives. When using scissors or knives to cut the package, if insert too deep into the bag, it may damage the surface of membrane. If using too much force, it may cause the skin damage of hands.

2) The bag is filled with 1% sodium bi-sulfate as the protective solution. Be sure to wear protective glasses and gloves when cut the package. If the solution accidentally splash the eye or body, please use the pure water to clean the eye immediately and then go to hospital quickly.

(No effect to membrane, but may damage to human body)

3) When installing the RO membrane into the vessel, use the clean water or glycerin to wet the joint and the seal so that could be better for installation. Do not use any lubricants (petroleum, grease, petrolatum and detergent), gasoline, thinner, etc. Because the water collecting pipe is made of plastic, if using those materials, it may cause the water pipe crack in the short time. Meantime it is prohibited to use gasoline and thinner or it will cause the degradation of RO membrane performance.

4) Carefully handle the membrane components. It is prohibited to throw and drop the film components or it will cause the degradation of RO membrane performance.

5) It is prohibited to hit a barbarian installation with a hammer. It will cause the crack of membrane vessel if the vessel is made of FRP, then the RO membrane performance can not be ensured in this condition.

2. Preparations needed before the installation of RO membrane

1) Flush the pipes of system: If the system is brand new, completely flush the system pipes before installing the membrane to avoid membrane contact with debris, solvents, or residual chlorine, etc.

2) Clean the inside of membrane vessel to prevent dirt or debris from depositing on the outer surface of the membrane, please be careful not to let the tool scratch the inner surface of the membrane vessel.

3. How to disassemble the RO membrane

1) Remove the pipes around the membrane vessel and the end plates on the two sides of membrane vessel.

2) Push the membrane downstream from the input water inlet side, and take out the membrane elements one by one on the concentrated water outlet side. Do not use hard metal rod to push out the membrane.

3) The storage method of the membrane element is shown in Table 2. If not strictly observed, membrane performance may change, so please pay attention.

4. Precautions need to be noticed for the storage of RO membrane

1) After completely cleaning the membrane element with water, make it hermetically immersed in the plastic bag which contains 1% sodium sodium bi-sulfate. If the membrane element is stored in a contaminated state or dried after the use, the performance of the membrane element will be affected.

2) Store membrane in the temperature range of 5-35℃ or it will cause the degradation of RO membrane performance.
