How to Treat Reverse osmosis Concentrated water

During the reverse osmosis process, a certain amount of concentrated water is generated and discharged. If directly discharge the reverse osmosis concentrated water will waste the water resources. But how to deal with the concentrated water has always been a problem.Reverse osmosis concentrated brine treatment uses a low-temperature-evaporation-crystallization process. It uses seawater desalination technology and uses distillation and concentration to evaporate high-salt concentrated water with multiple effects. The evaporated fresh water is recovered as supplementary water. After evaporation and crystallization, the remaining solid salt residue is treated again as secondary waste, so as to realize the recovery and zero discharge of reverse osmosis plant high-salt concentrated water.

 

Commonly used reverse osmosis concentrated water treatment methods:

1) Maximize the recovery rate

2) Direct or indirect discharge the concentrated reject water

3) Comprehensive utilization after various treatments

4) Evaporate concentration and remove pollutants, then finally achieve the goal of zero emission.

 

Reverse osmosis concentrated water treatment technology

The treatment volume of reverse osmosis plant concentrated water is very large.Based on the zero discharge of reverse osmosis concentrated brine and the utilization of recyclable resources, the following methods used for treatment:

 

1) Distillation-crystallization process 

Distillation generally adopts distillation-crystallization process. It is a desalination method based on the development of seawater desalination technology. This technology is a process of heating reverse osmosis salt-containing concentrated water, making it boil until it evaporates, and then condensing the water vapor into fresh water, and the concentrated liquid is further crystallized to make salt. The technical basis of this method is mainly multi-effect evaporation, steam condensation and other technologies.

 

2) Membrane distillation-crystallization process

It adopts a combination of membrane distillation separation technology and evaporation crystallization. Compared with other membrane separation processes, it has the advantages of high rejection rate and low energy consumption. It can effectively treat high-concentration and high-salt waste water that cannot be treated by reverse osmosis plant. Besides, it also has the advantages of energy saving and environmental protection.

 

Utilization of water resources for reverse osmosis concentrated water treatment

1) The reverse osmosis plant concentrated water re-flux method can effectively improve the recovery rate of reverse osmosis plant, but because the reverse osmosis re-flux rate is high, it is easy to cause fouling, which will affect the life of the RO membrane, lead to the high cost.

 

2) Reuse the reverse osmosis concentrated water as production water. Reverse osmosis concentrated water contains no suspended matter and is under pressure, thus it can be used as backwash water, dust removal water, ash and slag washing water, cooling water for filter devices, or it can be mixed into raw water for recovery after simple treatment.
