UF system membrane Cleaning method


Filtration principle of UF system membrane

UF membrane utilizes the pressure difference between the two sides of the membrane as the driving force and the ultrafiltration membrane as the filter medium. Under a given pressure, when the raw water flows through the membrane surface, the densely packed ultrafiltration membrane surface only allows water and molecular substances pass to become permeate water.While the other substances in raw water are trapped to become concentrated water, thus achieving the the purification of raw water.

 

There are about 6 billion of 0.01 micron micropores on the wall of the ultrafiltration membrane per meter long. The pore size only allows water molecules, beneficial minerals and trace elements in the water to pass through, so bacteria and colloids that are intercepted.

 

How to clean the UF membrane

1. Physical cleaning mainly include Flush, Backwash and Air-wash. Periodic physical cleaning mainly refers to a cleaning method that after the system running for a period of time, to perform Flush, Backwash and Air-wash, or a combination of these three methods.

 

A) Flush is to open the inlet valve and close the product water valve, and flush the membrane at a high speed to remove pollutants on the surface of membrane.

 

B) Backwash is reverse to filtration, which means to feed water into membrane by product water side, to flush out the pollutants in RO membrane by large-scale backwash water.

 

C) Air wash is to shaking the membrane filaments with gas to remove pollutants.

 

2. Disperse chemical cleaning


A) Add the chemicals into backwash water, which means add a certain proportion of agent into backwash water, to soak the membrane for a short time, the operation of process is auto, but need to ensure that the dosing is sufficient in dosing tank.

 

B) After a period of normal operation, due to the contamination of the ultrafiltration membrane modules by suspended particles, organic matter and other substances, the flow rate of the product water will decrease and pressure rise.Thus to restore the performance of the membrane module, it must be chemically cleaned regularly, and the  specific cleaning plan will be determined by the characteristics and degree of pollution.
