Notice during Operation of Reverse osmosis equipment


1. The hydrolysis of the cellulose acetate membrane can easily lead to the deterioration of the performance of the reverse osmosis equipment. For this reason, the pH value of the feed water must be strictly controlled, better be maintained at 5-6, although the acceptable range shall be 3-11.

 

2. When the amount of injected sodium hypochlorite is insufficient and the free chlorine in the feed water cannot be measured, slime will occur on the membrane module of the reverse osmosis device, and the pressure difference of the reverse osmosis device will increase. However, for composite membranes and polyamide membranes, the amount of free chlorine entering the membrane module must be strictly controlled. Exceeding the specified value will lead to oxidative decomposition of the membrane.

 

3. If the water with the FI value exceeding the standard is supplied to the reverse osmosis device as feed water, dirt will adhere to the surface of the membrane module, so the dirt must be removed by cleaning.

 

4. Excessive feed water flow will cause the membrane module to deteriorate in advance, so the feed water flow cannot exceed the design standard value. In addition, the flow rate of concentrated water should be avoided to be less than the design standard value. Running under the condition that the flow rate of concentrated water is too small will cause uneven flow in the pressure vessel of the reverse osmosis  equipment and precipitation of fouling on the membrane module due to excessive concentration.

 

5. Even if the high-pressure pump of the reverse osmosis equipment is interrupted for a very short time, the equipment may fail.

 

6. The reverse osmosis inlet pressure should be maintained with a proper margin, otherwise the salt removal rate will be reduced due to the lack of proper compaction.

 

7. When the reverse osmosis equipment stops, the low-pressure feed water shall be used to replace the water in the equipment. This is to prevent precipitation of silica during shutdown (due to a drop in water temperature in winter).

 

8. Always pay attention to the pressure validity period of the cartridge filter. The reason for the sharp rise in differential pressure is mainly the leakage of the turbidity of the cartridge filter. On the contrary, the reason for the sharp drop in pressure difference is the damage of the cartridge filter element and the looseness of the tightening screw of the cartridge filter element.

 

9. When the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the reverse osmosis cartridge exceeds the standard, it means that the membrane surface has been polluted or the water flow rate is above the design value. If the pressure difference problem cannot be solved by flow adjustment, the membrane surface should be cleaned.

 

10. In summer, the temperature of the feed water is high, and the flow of the permeate water will be too much, thus sometimes the operating pressure has to be reduced, which will lead to a decrease in the quality of the permeate water. To prevent this, the number of membrane modules can be reduced while the operating pressure remains high.
