· Iron or manganese removal commonly involves injecting chlorine or potassium permanganate, followed by filtration with sand or coated greensand media.  Chlorine can affect the taste and odor of the water as well as involve high levels of maintenance and costs

· Most treatment systems for removing iron and manganese from groundwater sources use chlorine, oxygen or various other chemicals to oxidize the clear state of iron and manganese to an oxidized or solid form so the particles can then be filtered out. If complete oxidation occurs and if the oxidized floc is of suitable condition, a filtration system consisting of filter sand and anthracite is used.

· In place of filter sand, manganese dioxide filter media can be used. Manganese dioxide media are either naturally mined and in a solid granule form or manufactured by applying a coating of manganese dioxide on the surface of various types of granular filter media such as silica or greensand.

Removal of iron and manganese from water design flow chart suggestion:

WHO standard Iron and manganese standard. Iron≤ 0.3mg/L, Manganese ≤0.1mg/L

When Iron ＜2.0Mg/L,Mn＜2Mg/L, Aeration  (use blast pump or air compressor)If PH is low adjust PH. Single iron remove filter).

When Iron ≧5mg/LM Mn≧1.5mg/L, First aeration, then adopt double iron remove filter. 1st remove iron, 2nd remove manganese.

When Iron ≧10mg/LM Mn≧2mg/L,PH ＞5.5 well water. Need to discuss with engineer then customized the design.
