Compared with other desalination system, such as: evaporator, electrodialysis, ion exchange system, etc., reverse osmosis equipment has unique characteristics and advantages, but with the increase in applications, the problems that appear are also increasing.

 

1. Commonly without the detailed feed water analysis report, the system design will be not that accurate sufficient, resulting in the shortening of the service life of the reverse osmosis equipment.

 

a) The reverse osmosis device generally requires the inlet SDI<4. When designing the pretreatment filter, the principle of filter media from large to small should be followed, and in actual use, it is intercepted by the finest sand layer in the upper layer, so the sand in the upper layer is easy to block and agglomerate. Granular anthracite can increase the pollution holding capacity, which shows the great performance in actual situation.

 

b) The sand filter and carbon filter has a large proportion of quartz sand at the bottom. When designing the backwash part, the backwash pump, backwash blower, etc. must meet the requirements of the backwash flow. Regularly backwash the pretreatment filters can help restore the performance if filters.

 

c) The activated carbon filter has two main functions: ① Absorb some organics in the water with an adsorption rate of about 60%; ② Absorb residual chlorine in the water to avoid oxidation of the reverse osmosis membrane. The reverse osmosis system generally requires the residual chlorine in the inlet water to be <0.1mg/ L. In addition, the removal of residual chlorine by activated carbon is not simply adsorption, but catalysis on its surface, so activated carbon does not have the problem of adsorption saturation.

 

d) Various coagulants and polymer flocculants are added in the pretreatment to remove suspended solids, colloids and other impurities in the water. However, if they are not added accurately according to the feed water quality, not only will the water quality not be improved, but on the contrary, it will damage the performance of reverse osmosis membrane.

 

e) The main purpose of the cartridge filter is to ensure that the impurities in the inlet water do not damage the high-pressure pump and the reverse osmosis membrane. Generally, the filter pore size is 1/5μm, and the filter element needs to be replaced according to the front and rear pressure difference.

 

f) Adding a scale inhibitor to the pretreatment and working with the subsequent reverse osmosis membrane can reduce the hardness of the water and avoid reverse osmosis scale formation, thus better ensure the performance of reverse osmosis equipment.

 

2. There are no worker to carry out daily maintenance of the equipment, and only when the equipment does not produce water workers occurred to check problems, thus when the equipment is blocked can not be detected in time, which affects the service life of the equipment.
