How to Design the Control of Water Softener

There are 2 normal ways to control water softener, one is time control while the other is flow control. And flow control can be divided into 3 ways: single tank flow control, double tank flow control, and triple tank flow control.

I. Single tank flow control:

If choose this model, when regenerate the resin the system will stop producing product water, thus if select this model should equip with the product water which can

Among them, the single tank flow control type equipment will stop supplying soft water during regeneration, so if you choose this series of products, you need to be equipped with a soft water tank that can be used for at least two hours.

II. Double tank flow control:

The double tank flow control system is composed of 2 vessels, salt tanks and related pipes. The controller can switch the product water quality, standby and regeneration based on capacity to make sure whenever will be one vessel is in working state to continuously supply soft water. Once there is a filter need to regenerate the resin, the other one will be at the working state automatically to make sure the product water quality will not be affected.

III. Triple tank flow control:

The triple tank flow control system is composed of 3 vessels, salt tanks and related pipes. The controller can switch the product water quality, standby and regeneration based on capacity, will be 2 on duty and 1 stand by. When one filter need to regenerate the resin, it will be into stand by state. Once one of the other 2 filters need to regenerate the resin, the stand by one will be into on duty state, the product capacity will not be affected.

IV. Full-auto control of system operation:

1) Time control single tank: This kind of system will need to set regeneration time based on actual product quality and system exchange capacity, when reach the time it can be regenerated automatically, also can be controlled to regenerate manually. As the operation is easier so price will be lower then Flow control one, normally it only can regenerate once in 24 hours, so more suitable for the stable feed water of low hardness and no strict product water requirement.

2) Flow control: This kind of system is controlled based on the system exchange capacity, will use specified flow meter to calculate the product water capacity, when reach the setting value, it will control the system to regenerate automatically. The setting value should be designed based on resin loading capacity, feed water hardness. This kind of system better suit the condition of feed water capacity and quality fluctuate, to control it be more stable. Thus this kind of system more suitable for fuel oil, boilers and central air conditioners which has relatively higher standard for product water.
