Ion exchange water treatment is very reliable regarding water softening. I think they should be widely used because of their ability to remove magnesium and calcium ions and exchange them with sodium ions. Working principle of ion exchange water treatment system
The device apply strong acid cation resin to replace calcium and magnesium ions in raw water, and then the water after treatment of softening and desalting can be directly used as the make-up water of steam boiler.
The chemical reaction is as follows: 2RNa+Ca2+(Mg2)=R2Ca(Mg)+2Na+
When calcium and magnesium ions, absorbed in the resin reach a certain amount, they must be regenerated. Then the resin is soaked in saturated brine to replace the hardness of calcium and magnesium ions in the resin, so that the softening and exchange capacity of the resin is restored, and the waste liquid is discharged.The chemical reaction is as follows:R2Ga=2RNa+Ca2+
